Tales From the Job Field: A Sewer Lateral Repair

The city of Belmont did a sewer lateral rehabilitation project on one of our customer's properties - without actually connecting their lines! This left them without a proper sewer service. Luckily, Smart Plumber Patrick was up to the task. He discovered that the pipe was off-set and our cable wasn't able to proceed down to clear any obstruction. Our drainline camera also couldn't proceed down for that reason. Using a locator we found where the problem was at, meeting the sewer lateral. Putting the camera down in the neighbor's cleanout to identify how close we were at the spot to dig led us to find out the lines weren't connected at all (because it's the city lines they're supposed to be connected and tap in from the same source). We informed the property owner about these findings and made the initiative to get the city involved. The city signed off on the work after we got authorization and ended up making all necessary repairs. Smart Plumbers can be there to work with the customer when dealing with the city like this - in the past, we've even saved people thousands of dollars this way doing it ourselves rather than leave it up to municipal services.

Our reputation has leaked out!

Our Smartplumber Joey was dispatched to a familiar scenario where customers are too often faced with a sudden increase in their monthly water bill. In no time at all, our Smartplumber was able to quickly determine that the laundry room had sprung a leak; underneath the hot water line piping stone-tiled floor! This was determined by using a thermal heat sensor that was used to locate the direction of the pipeline and where exactly the pipe damage was. (This type of device reminds me of a Dr's stethoscope, where earphones and a sensor are used to detect and hear soft hissing sounds). Personal Story: Broken Water Heater Burner

People in the plumbing industry need plumbing help now and then. Your humble author had his 4-year-old water heater go out. After a loud bang akin to a small explosion the heater stopped outputting any hot water. Patrick came out the next day and verified that the burner assembly was dead. Because it was under warranty our plumber didn't end up making the repairs but his expertise analysis and opinion, along with advice on where to turn to next in order to get it serviced, proved to be invaluable assistance.
